Official design
The three horizontal panels are equal in size. The Chakra is centred in the white panel, is navy blue and contains 24 equally spaced spokes. It should be completely visible on both sides.
Adoption and historical context
The Constituent Assembly adopted the present design on 22 July 1947. The Ashoka Chakra replaced the charkha used in earlier flags connected with the freedom movement.
Respectful use
The Flag Code brings together instructions and conventions concerning display and use. Laws protecting national honour also apply. Flag images should not be distorted, incomplete or incorrectly coloured.
